A retreat dedicated to unveiling our inner radiance through yoga, chanting and meditation.

The theme for this retreat is inspired by The Beatles’ song “Here comes the sun” and is dedicated to rediscovering our inner radiance in a relaxed and playful atmosphere. The morning and evening hatha yoga classes will gently warm the body and stoke the solar energy within. The yoga practice is suitable for practitioners of all levels, beginners are especially welcome!

Styles of yoga to be taught

We will practice a gentle hatha “flow” which is suitable for students of all levels. Throughout the yoga practice we will focus our attention on our breath and body as we “flow” from one pose to the next. The overall aim of the practice is to quiet the mind, deepen the breath and refine our body awareness.

Each day we will practice hatha flow in the mornings and restorative yoga in the evenings so as to align our energies with the natural cycles of day and night. Along with each yoga practice we will explore some simple guided meditation techniques that involve both mindfulness practice and chanting. No prior experience necessary.

Exploring the energy of  the 3rd chakra, Manipura.

In yoga the energy of the sun is said to reside in the the solar plexus also known as the 3rd chakra Manipura (energy center). The energy of this chakra is playful, bright and uplifting. It is the seat of our personal power whose highest form of expression is joy, confidence and appreciation. In the following workshops we will explore the energy of the 3rd chakra.

Sun Salutations Workshop 

The sun salutations are the basis of the hatha yoga practice. They embody the energy of the sun because they gradually get the whole body warmed up and ready to go. Practiced daily these sun salutations will have you glowing! You will learn how to use the sun salutations as a stand-alone practice or as a means to prepare the body for more advanced poses. In this workshop you will learn some different styles of sun salutations so that you can explore which one suits you the most. My intention is for you to pick one to take home with you so that you  may practice it whenever you like.

Chanting the Gayatri Mantra

Yogic meditation is yet another means to focus the mind and stop the incessant inner chatter. It is especially useful when one is beginning a meditation practice as sitting still for prolonged periods of time is quite difficult at this level. Mantra chanting is a jumpstart to our meditation practice as it gives us a task to focus our attention on. And it’s fun! In this class you will learn to chant the Gayatri Mantra, a beautiful invocation to the sun that will quiet your mind and help you find your way to inner stillness.

Energising Pranayama?

Pranayama, or breath regulation, is another keystone yoga practice to balance the body and mind. Pranayama has a direct effect on our nervous system. It can help boost our energy levels when we feel groggy and listless or it can help us to settle and focus our mind. This pranayama workshop will be focused on learning some tonifying and uplifting breathing practices that are best suited for the morning as they warm the body and produce energy.

Aromatherapy & Yoga

Aromatherapy oils are extracted from real plants and fruits. They are distilled in such a way to preserve the medicinal properties of the plants they come from. In aromatherapy we use these natural scents to enhance and uplift our mood in the morning as we start the day or to wind down in the evening as you get ready for bed. In this workshop you will learn how to use aromatherapy in conjunction with yoga. You will learn which scents work best in the morning to uplift the spirit and which work best in the evening to calm the mind in preparation for rest.

Twists and shout

A workshop designed to learn the ins and outs of the twisting yoga poses. Twisting poses are said to regulate the whole body like a tonifying balm. They give you energy when you are down and they soothe agitated minds. During this workshop you will learn about the effects twisting poses have on the internal organs of the body and you will also experiment those benefits as we move through a yoga twisting sequence.

Accommodation

Accommodation is provided in beautifully furnished 5-metre bell tents. Nestled amongst the lemon and orange groves, the bell tents are simple but sumptuous, with electricity and comfortable beds. Each tent can sleep up to three people. Crisp bed linen and pool towels are provided. There are solar hot and cold powered showers facilities. Internet access is available. There is a small shop on site for all those little essentials you might need.
